You can pick up the ingredients to brew a Big Brew Day recipe on your own at a discounted price! “Janet’s Brown Ale” has quite the pedigree. Mike “Tasty” McDole took home a medal when this recipe won gold in the Brown Ale category in the National Homebrew Competition (NHC) in 2004. The award-winning recipe was then featured in Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer’s book, Brewing Classic Styles, as an example of a bigger, hoppier American Brown Ale. In 2009, McDole took gold again at the NHC with an updated recipe that he categorized as Imperial Brown Ale, but this time in the Specialty Beers category. Though Janet’s Brown Ale deviates a bit from the style guidelines for a traditional American Brown Ale, surely you will not be upset by the higher IBUs and ABV after taking a sip!

Brew Homebrew

If you prefer the stronger Imperial version of this beer you can add another pound of corn sugar to boost the ABV from 6.6% to 7.4%.

The price for the 5 gallon ingredients for this recipe is:
All Grain $42.99
Extract $47.99

Like all businesses and retailers, Homebrew Emporium is monitoring ongoing developments regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19). The safety and well-being of our associates and customers is our highest priority and we wanted to let you know we are taking the recommended steps and precautions to keep our associates informed and ensure your shopping experience is safe and pleasant.

Homebrew Emporium, as a specialty food store, works in an environment where we must meet or exceed food safety standards set by local and state requirements and industry best practices. Food contact surfaces are cleaned and sanitized regularly and we follow a routine of frequent, thorough cleaning of public areas and restrooms. We clean and sanitize surfaces regularly handled by customers. Additionally, our associates are trained to follow good hand hygiene practices and we will advise associates who feel ill to remain home. We continue to monitor and follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, state and local health.
We will continue to work hard to maintain your trust and confidence.
With breweries and restaurants closed, if you want craft beer you’ll have to make your own. It’s the same thing for wine and cider. But Homebrew Emporium is still open and ready to get your favorite recipe together. Also, if you are in New York you can come and get a growler of beer from our sister company Emporium Farm Brewery next door during regular Homebrew Emporium hours.
For the duration of the current crisis we also will be glad to provide curbside delivery. Call our store and give us your order. We will gather it together, bag it and ring it up. When you get to the store, give us a ring on the phone and we’ll bring it out to your car. Of course you can still just come to the store and do your shopping.
