Renamebycontent (RBC) Automatically rename files by looking at their contents. RBC is a python script that can be used to automaticall guess (hopefully) useful names and dates for files. It was written to recover thousands of files that were deleted by mistake and partially recovered by the excellent tool photorec. This tutorial explains how to rename multiple PDF files by using text from the documents. The files are invoices and are named by client names. The goal is to rename these PDF files by 'Invoice Number' and 'Client ID'. Both numbers are located on the first page of each document.

Rename Master

Rename Master is a freeware utility designed to rename multiple files with a just few clicks. Anyone that has worked with websites, file archives, or collections of music, videos, or pictures has probably spent way too much time renaming hundreds of files.
This utility will add, remove, or replace parts of the filename with ease and also supports renaming via file properties, MP3 tags, JPEG JFIF and EXIF tags, Video tags, and text files. Batch renaming that's simple to use, yet still very powerful.

Rename By Contents List

When renaming or copying, the file names are changed according to flexible criteria (rules) specified by the user. You can specify the following renaming rules:

• Add prefix or suffix.
• Cut prefix or suffix.
• Change case.
• Capitalize first letter.
• Replace substring.
• Add numbers.
• Change file extension.
• Specify custom rule. This is the most powerful tool: you write your own renaming expression of almost any complexity; you are able to use file or system dates, file size, file content, MP3 tags, arithmetic operations, a lot of predefined functions etc. Using custom expression, you can spread your files across multiple folders.

It is possible to add any number of rules. The rules are applied consequently in the specified order.

Before renaming, the list of files to rename can be rearranged manually or automatically by name, date, type, or in random order.
